About Widgee Crossing South

Widgee Crossing South is a rural locality in the Wide Bay region of Queensland, located about 6.4 kilometres west of Gympie and 180 kilometres north of Brisbane in the Gympie Region. Named after Widgee Crossing, a ford over the Mary River that was an important crossing point during the Gympie gold rush, the Mary River forms the north-eastern boundary and Eel Creek forms the south-eastern boundary with terrain varying from 40 to 140 metres above sea level. A bridge was later built but washed away in a flood in the 1960s, and the crossing divides the twin localities of Widgee Crossing North and South.
