About Kolonga

Kolonga is a rural locality in the Wide Bay region of Queensland, located about 45.6 kilometres northwest of Gin Gin and 416 kilometres north-northwest of Brisbane in the Bundaberg Region. Bounded to the east by Lake Monduran, the impoundment of Fred Haigh Dam, the Bruce Highway passes through the locality with land use dominated by grazing on native vegetation. Named after the Kolonga pastoral run established in the early 1860s, the name probably derives from the Kabi language word kalanga meaning very good.
