About Gundiah

Gundiah is a rural town and locality in the Fraser Coast Region, approximately 40 kilometres south-west of Maryborough and 50 kilometres north of Gympie. Named after an Aboriginal word meaning goodbye, the town was originally known as Gootchie before the name was changed in 1882. The Mary River flows nearby, and the locality retains a quiet agricultural character.
