About Eumundi
Eumundi is a rural town in the Sunshine Coast Region of Queensland, located 19 kilometres north of Nambour and 21 kilometres south-west of Noosa Heads. The name is believed to come from the Kabi word Ngumundi, a local Indigenous clan leader. Previously called Eerwah after Mount Eerwah, the name was changed before 1890 to avoid confusion with Beerwah. The town blocks were surveyed and divided in 1890 and the railway station opened in 1891. The Eumundi Markets, first held on 24 March 1979 with just three stalls, have grown to over 600 stalls and 1.6 million visitors per year. The Eumundi Brewery opened in 1988 in the Imperial Hotel. Notable residents include tennis champion Pat Rafter and former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
