About Windorah
Windorah is an outback town in the Shire of Barcoo in far south-west Queensland, on Cooper Creek downstream of where the Thomson and Barcoo rivers join. Its name is said to come from an Aboriginal word for big fish. Known as the heart of the Channel Country, the town was gazetted in 1880 and has hosted the Windorah International Yabby Races every year since 1998 to raise money for community causes.
