About Waua Islet

Waua Islet is an island locality in the Torres Strait Island Region of Queensland, consisting of a single small island about 3.5 kilometres south of Mer Island. Also known as Wyer Island or Waier Island, it is one of the Murray Islands group, on the north-eastern fringe of the Torres Strait. The islet is the remains of a volcanic crater and is uninhabited, but it is culturally significant to the Meriam people, who were granted native title over it in 2002.
