About Dauan Island
Dauan Island is an island in the Torres Strait, Queensland, also known as Cornwallis Island, and a town and locality in the Torres Strait Island Region. It lies close to the Papua New Guinea border in the most northern point of Australia's territory. The island is known for its permanent freshwater springs, fertile soil and steep hills, and is crowned by Mount Cornwallis, Queensland's most northerly granite peak, which is part of the Great Dividing Range.
