About Dayboro

Dayboro is a rural town and locality in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, located 47 kilometres north-northwest of Brisbane and surrounded by the D'Aguilar Range. Originally named Hamilton after farmer Hugh Hamilton in 1875, it became Terrors Creek in 1892 after a creek named for a grey Arab stallion called Terah, then was renamed Dayboro in 1917 honouring William Henry Day, a police magistrate who pioneered sugar growing in the 1860s. The Dayboro railway line operated from 1920 to 1955 and remnants of bridges and cuttings remain visible. The town hosts the annual Dayboro Day Festival attracting over 20,000 visitors, monthly country markets and the Dayboro Rodeo. The area is surrounded by avocado and pineapple plantations and dairy cattle.
