About Mount Britton
Mount Britton is a rural locality in the Isaac Region of Queensland, on the traditional lands of the Wiri Aboriginal people. It contains the abandoned gold rush town of Mount Britton, which began in 1881 with the discovery of a gold field and at its height had around 1,500 inhabitants. The town's post office operated from 1881 to 1912, and its school from about 1883 to 1906. After alluvial and shallow reef gold diminished in the late 1880s, the town declined and was abandoned, and its site at the end of Mount Britton Road is now a historical site.
