About Somerset Dam
Somerset Dam is a town and locality in the Somerset Region of Queensland, about 115 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, named after the Somerset Dam on the Stanley River. Construction of the dam began in 1935, and it now supplies drinking water to Brisbane and surrounding regions as well as providing flood mitigation. Its impounded reservoir, Lake Somerset, is a popular fishing and boating destination, and the dam is listed as an Engineering Heritage National Landmark.
