About Pickanjinnie
Pickanjinnie is a rural locality in the Maranoa Region of south-west Queensland, about 34 kilometres east of Roma on the Warrego Highway. The name derives from an Aboriginal term meaning 'place of land and water where the tortoise goes'. After World War I, portions of the area were subdivided into soldier settlement blocks. The Pickanjinnie Monument, a painted rock at the highway intersection, marks an Aboriginal legend.
