About Passchendaele
Passchendaele is a rural locality in the Southern Downs Region of Queensland, named after the famous World War I battleground. It grew around the former Passchendaele railway station on the Amiens line, which served the soldier-settlement fruit growing areas; the station was named by the Queensland Railways Department in 1920. The undeveloped town of Messines, within the locality, is similarly named for the Belgian village near Ypres where Australian troops fought in 1917.
