About Mitchell (Qld)
Mitchell is a rural town on the banks of the Maranoa River in the Maranoa Region of Queensland, about 87 km west of Roma on the Warrego Highway. It is named after explorer and Surveyor-General Sir Thomas Mitchell, who explored the area in 1846. The town services the surrounding cattle and sheep farming district, and was once the administrative centre of the Shire of Booringa.
