About Goondiwindi

Goondiwindi is a rural town and locality in southern Queensland, about 350 kilometres south-west of Brisbane on the Macintyre River, which marks the border with New South Wales. The administrative centre of the Goondiwindi Region, it is a service town for surrounding cotton and cropping country. Its name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning 'resting place for birds', and it is famed as the birthplace of the racehorse Gunsynd, 'The Goondiwindi Grey'.
