About Cecil Plains
Cecil Plains is a rural town on the fertile black soils of the Condamine River on the Darling Downs, about 81 kilometres west of Toowoomba and 43 kilometres south of Dalby. Settled in 1842 by Henry Stuart Russell, the homestead later served as a base for Ludwig Leichhardt's expeditions in 1844 and 1847. The area is a major cotton production zone and home to one of the largest cotton gins in the Southern Hemisphere.
