About Orion
Orion is a vast, sparsely populated rural locality in the Central Highlands Region of Queensland, roughly 80 kilometres southwest of Emerald. The Dawson Highway traverses the southwestern edge and the Comet River forms much of the southeastern boundary, shaping a landscape that transitions from open plains to rocky mountain ranges rising above 600 metres. Land use is dominated by extensive cattle grazing on native vegetation with some grain cropping, and the nearest service town is Emerald which provides a full range of amenities.
