About Crinum
Crinum is a large, sparsely populated rural locality in the Central Highlands Region of Queensland, situated in Bowen Basin coal country roughly 60 kilometres northeast of Emerald. The locality is defined by its association with large-scale coal mining, including the Gregory-Crinum underground mine operated by BHP and Mitsubishi, and the nearby Kestrel coal mine. The area has a notable industrial relations history: a group of mine workers dismissed from the Gordonstone Coal Mine maintained a protest line from 1997 to 1999, becoming Australia's longest running black coal labour dispute.
