About Banana
Banana is a rural town at the intersection of the Dawson and Leichhardt Highways in Central Queensland, about 46 kilometres west of Biloela. One of the oldest towns in Central Queensland, surveyed in 1860, it was named after a dun-coloured working bullock used for herding cattle, and a statue of the bullock stands in the town. A minor gold rush in 1887 briefly boosted the population, and the town now supports beef cattle, coal and agriculture.
