Kimberley is a coastal locality in the Shire of Douglas, bounded to the south by the Daintree River and to the east by the Coral Sea. Much of the locality falls within the Daintree National Park. It takes its name from Cape Kimberley, which explorer George Elphinstone Dalrymple named in 1873 after John Wodehouse, the first Earl of Kimberley. A town surveyed in the locality in 1886 was later renamed Whitby but was abandoned in the late nineteenth century. The Walu Wugirriga Lookout on Cape Tribulation Road offers views across the mouth of the Daintree River to Snapper Island and the Low Isles.
