About Lansvale
Lansvale is a residential suburb of Sydney in the City of Fairfield, New South Wales, located 28 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD. The name is a portmanteau of Lansdowne and Canley Vale. Adjacent to Chipping Norton Lake and Floyd Bay, the area was a popular recreational site in the early 20th century with Latty's Pleasure Grounds, Butterfly Hall and Hollywood Park. The first Rugby League trial games in Australia were held at Latty's Pleasure Grounds in early 1908. The heritage-listed Lansdowne Bridge, a sandstone structure designed by David Lennox and built between 1834 and 1836, is a local landmark. Lansvale is highly multicultural with significant Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lebanese and Chinese communities.
