About Carramar (NSW)
Carramar is a suburb in Sydney's west, about 30 kilometres from the CBD in the City of Fairfield. The name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning shade of trees. One of Sydney's oldest trees, the Bland Oak, was planted here in the 1830s, and the suburb developed after the railway station opened in 1924, initially as South Fairfield before being renamed in 1926.
