About Queenscliff (NSW)
Queenscliff is a beachside suburb in the Northern Beaches region of Sydney, New South Wales, situated 16 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district. Named in honour of Queen Victoria, the area was a popular holiday destination from the early 1900s to World War I, with visitors staying in shacks on the headland. The suburb takes in the northern end of the Manly beach stretch, including Queenscliff Beach and the Queenscliff headland, and is bordered to the west by Manly Lagoon, historically known as Curl Curl Lagoon, the original Aboriginal name for the area, which was home to the Garigal people. Queenscliff is renowned among Australian surf beaches for its powerful offshore waves known as bomboras.
