About Punchbowl (Canterbury-Bankstown - NSW)
Punchbowl is a suburb in Western Sydney, about 17 km south-west of the Sydney central business district, in the City of Canterbury-Bankstown. The name comes from a circular valley, called the punchbowl, that lies in nearby Belfield, and from an inn built there in the 1830s. A railway station opened on Punchbowl Road in 1909, and the suburb grew around it, with the Astoria cinema serving local residents from 1935 until 1959.
