About Numbaa
Numbaa is a farming locality on the Shoalhaven River floodplain, about 7.5 km east of Nowra, centred on the cattle industry. It was part of the 1822 land grant to Alexander Berry and Edward Wollstonecraft and was the site of the first farm south of the Shoalhaven. Once a substantial village with the district's first Presbyterian church and post office, it declined as nearby Terara and Nowra grew; the locality is bordered by the river and the historic Berrys Canal, Australia's first transport canal.
