About Wantabadgery

Wantabadgery is a small village community in the central eastern Riverina of New South Wales, about 35 kilometres east of Wagga Wagga and 19 kilometres west of Nangus, beside the Murrumbidgee River. The district was taken up as the Wantabadgery Run in 1831 and later became the site of an Aboriginal mission. The village is known for Captain Moonlite's hold-up of Wantabadgery Station in November 1879, when the bushranger and his gang bailed up the homestead and nearby hotel before police closed in.
