About Uranquinty

Uranquinty is a small town about 15 kilometres south of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales. It grew around the railway on the main Sydney-to-Melbourne line, the station opening in 1880 as Sandy Creek and being renamed Uranquinty in 1891. During World War II the town hosted the RAAF's No. 5 Service Flying Training School, which trained more than 1,500 pilots under the Empire Air Training Scheme, and after the war it housed a migrant reception centre for displaced persons.
