About Junee Reefs

Junee Reefs is a locality in the south-eastern Riverina of New South Wales, on Goldfields Way about 19 km north of Junee. Gold was discovered there in 1866, and it was the most southerly of a chain of goldfields running north through Temora and West Wyalong. Mining of Walletts Reef and nearby quartz reefs drew a settlement of hotels, stores and crushing batteries that is said to have held up to 4000 people at its peak. The post office closed in 1971, and the locality now has a war memorial, community hall and church.
