About Adelong

Adelong is a small town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, on the banks of Adelong Creek and on the Snowy Mountains Highway, in the Snowy Valleys Council area. Founded in 1836, it boomed as a gold-mining town after alluvial gold was found in 1852 and reef gold in 1857, and its heritage-listed Adelong Falls Gold Workings remain a visitor attraction. Since the gold ran out in the early 1900s the district has been given over to merino sheep and beef cattle grazing.
