About Tyalgum

Tyalgum is a rural village in the Tweed Valley of far northern New South Wales, about 26 km west of Murwillumbah, set among rainforest at the foot of the Border Ranges beneath the Tweed volcano caldera. Founded by cedar-getters in the late 1800s, who floated giant red cedar logs down the creeks that meet at the village, it later became a dairying centre, and the old Norco butter factory building survives. Tyalgum is nationally known for its classical music festival, held each September in the village hall, famed for its acoustics.
