About Wakefield

Wakefield is a widely scattered rural locality in the City of Lake Macquarie, about 25 kilometres west of Newcastle, believed to have been named after a town in Yorkshire, England. Historically tied to coal mining in the western Lake Macquarie area, with Diega Creek flowing through into Cockle Creek and part of Awaba State Forest within its bounds.
