About Dora Creek

Dora Creek is a small rural suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, located west of Lake Macquarie and 5 kilometres north-northeast of Morisset. Named for the creek running through its centre, it was originally known as Doree Doree in the local Aboriginal language meaning Creek running into a lake. The creek's banks form two peninsulas jutting into the lake, creating the unusual appearance of a creek inside a lake, explained by wind-driven lake erosion washing away flood plains but not eroding the clay sediments on the banks. A swing bridge crosses Dora Creek and the Watagan Mountains are nearby. Avondale College is in the vicinity. Major foreshore restoration works have been undertaken by Lake Macquarie Council.
