About Cooks Hill
Cooks Hill is an inner-city suburb of Newcastle on the New South Wales coast, known for its Victorian terrace housing and timber cottages, tree-lined streets and corner pubs. Its cafe and restaurant strip, Darby Street, is a popular dining destination, and the Newcastle Region Art Gallery and library stand on Laman Street. Von Bertouch Gallery, which opened here in the 1970s, is regarded as Australia's first commercial gallery outside a capital city.
