About Booragul
Booragul is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in Greater Newcastle, New South Wales, located 21 kilometres west-southwest of Newcastle on the western shore of Lake Macquarie. The suburb is on traditional Awabakal Aboriginal land and was established in 1829. Early industry included a slaughterhouse. Booragul Public School opened in 1955 and Booragul High School opened in 1958. After World War II, 72 houses were built for migrant accommodation and later used as married quarters for the Army and RAAF before being sold off in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Booragul railway station is on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line.
