About Myall Creek
Myall Creek is a rural locality in the Gwydir Shire of northern New South Wales, on the Gwydir River about 23 kilometres from Bingara. It is the site of the Myall Creek massacre, when in June 1838 a gang of stockmen killed about thirty Wirrayaraay and Gamilaroi people camped at Myall Creek Station, the first occasion on which settlers were tried and hanged for the murder of Aboriginal people. The memorial path and stone monument opened on the ridge in June 2000 as an act of reconciliation is listed on the Australian National Heritage List and the New South Wales State Heritage Register.
