About Boorook

Boorook is a rural locality in the Tenterfield Shire of the New England region of New South Wales, near the Queensland border. Gold was discovered in the district in 1853, and by 1879 the settlement at Boorook had about 300 residents and three pubs. Around 55 historical mine shafts are recorded in the area, which also saw silver and gold mining at Mount Carrington in the 1970s and 1980s.
