About Baan Baa
Baan Baa is a village in the Narrabri Shire of northern inland New South Wales, on the Kamilaroi Highway about 38 km south-east of Narrabri. Its name comes from the Gamilaraay word for mistletoe, 'baan'. The village grew around the railway, opened in 1883, and once claimed the longest railway platform in country New South Wales. Baan Baa remains a grain-loading centre for the surrounding wheat and mixed-farming country, with the Literary Institute of 1923 serving as its community hall.
