About Stony Crossing
Stony Crossing is a locality in the south-western Riverina of New South Wales, on the south bank of the Wakool River, about 35 km north-west of Swan Hill and 22 km south-east of Kyalite. It grew around the terminus of the Stony Crossing railway line, built from Kerang in Victoria under the Border Railways Act 1922 and opened in March 1928 after crossing the Murray River at Gonn Crossing. Services between Murrabit and Stony Crossing were suspended in 1943 and the line closed in 1961.
