About Thrumster
Thrumster is a residential suburb of Port Macquarie on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, located 9.1 kilometres west-southwest of the Port Macquarie town centre and 308 kilometres north of Sydney. Gazetted on 16 April 1993, the suburb was named after Thrumster, the ancestral home of the Innes family in Caithness, Scotland, early colonial settlers who owned property in the area during the late 19th century. The suburb is home to the Port Macquarie Service Centre, known locally as The Donut, a gateway landmark on the Oxley Highway. Suburban development began in the 2000s with the Sovereign Hills housing estate from 2008. Thrumster is known for a particularly high koala population and has a protected koala breeding colony under a dedicated management plan.
