About Lake Cathie

Lake Cathie is a town on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, a short drive south of Port Macquarie. It is a popular holiday destination centred on a tidal lake of the same name, fed daily by the ocean and at times closed over by shifting sands, when its waters darken from the tannins of the surrounding flora. The lake, lagoon and beaches offer year-round swimming and fishing, and the Birpai people have lived in the area for more than 40,000 years.
