About Hat Head
Hat Head is a coastal fishing village on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, about 32 km north-east of Kempsey and 459 km north of Sydney, set inside Hat Head National Park, a 6,445 hectare stretch of beaches, sand dunes, rocky headlands and wetlands. The long Hat Head Beach offers surfing, swimming and offshore bluewater fishing, and Korogoro Point is one of the east coast's best whale-watching vantage points. A cedar-getting district in the 1840s, the village has a main street, Straight Street, which lies below sea level.
