About Crescent Head

Crescent Head is a town on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, about 340 kilometres north-north-east of Sydney in the Kempsey Shire, on the traditional lands of the Dunghutti people. The name appeared in records from 1833 and the village was proclaimed in 1894. Crescent Head is one of Australia's classic surfing destinations, known for its long, right-hand point break that became a breeding ground for long-board surfing after the Second World War, and it was declared a National Surfing Reserve in 2008. The town hosts the annual Malibu Classic and has a six-hole golf course overlooking the sea. Tourism and fishing are its main industries, and the surrounding coastline includes the Goolawah and Limeburners Creek national parks.
