About Austral Eden

Austral Eden is a small rural locality in Kempsey Shire on the Mid North Coast, situated on the Macleay River. It takes its name from the 1838 land grant to colonial architect John Verge, who designed Elizabeth Bay House, establishing a pastoral property at the junction of Darkwater Creek and the Macleay River in country thickly timbered with valuable cedar. Verge retired there and died in 1861.
