About Lake Heights
Lake Heights is a coastal suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales, on the western foreshore of Lake Illawarra, west of Warrawong and Port Kembla. Named for its elevated position above the lake, most of its streets enjoy views across the water to the Illawarra escarpment. The suburb was developed in the 1950s by the New South Wales Housing Commission to house workers, many of them post-war migrants, for the booming Port Kembla steelworks, and Lake Heights Public School opened in 1954. The area lies on Dharawal Country.
