About Avon (NSW)
Avon is a locality on the western side of the Illawarra Range in New South Wales, about 4 km west of Wongawilli and 5 km north-west of Avondale. It lies within the Metropolitan Catchment Area and has no residential development. The locality is home to the Avon Dam, completed in 1927 as part of the Upper Nepean water supply scheme, whose Egyptian-inspired architecture and grounds are a distinctive feature. The dam remains a major source of water for the Illawarra region.
