About Scone

Scone is a town on the Hunter River in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales, about 270 km north of Sydney on the New England Highway. First settled as the village of Redbank in 1826 and renamed in 1831, it grew among the great pastoral properties of Belltrees and Segenhoe. Scone is known as the Horse Capital of Australia, one of the world's leading thoroughbred-breeding districts, with its horse festival and the Scone Cup race meeting held each May. The surrounding shire is also a centre of dairying and vineyards.
