About Paxton

Paxton is a village in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia, located 108 kilometres north of Sydney within the City of Cessnock. Established in 1922 as a model township for the South Maitland coalfields, it retains a rural village character. The Austar coal mine operated nearby from 1916 to 2020, and the village has a significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population.
