About Fingal Bay
Fingal Bay is a coastal town in the Hunter region of New South Wales, the easternmost suburb of the Port Stephens area, named after a small semi-circular bay and mostly surrounded by Tomaree National Park. The headland at the bay's entrance, Point Stephens, was named by Captain Cook in 1770, and its 1862 lighthouse now sits on an island cut off from the mainland when the 1891 Maitland gale washed away the land bridge, leaving the wave-swept Fingal Spit. The bay is a noted fishing and oyster-farming area.
