About Fernances Crossing

Fernances Crossing is a semi-rural locality in the City of Cessnock in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, located about 14 kilometres northwest of Cessnock and 89 kilometres from Sydney. The landscape features hilly country east of the Watagan Mountains with ridges, gullies, and remnant dry sclerophyll forest at approximately 132 metres elevation. Near the historic Great North Road, one of Australia's earliest colonial roads built by convict labour in the 1820s to connect Sydney to the Hunter Valley, the locality is part of the broader Cessnock area known for wine production, coal mining, and tourism.
