About Milparinka
Milparinka is a small settlement in far north-west New South Wales, on the Silver City Highway about 250 kilometres north of Broken Hill, beside a waterhole on Evelyn Creek. The name is a Wangkumara Aboriginal word meaning "water may be found here". Milparinka grew as the administrative centre of the Albert Goldfields after the Mount Browne gold rush of 1880, and by the 1880s had four hotels, a bank, police station and courthouse. Today its award-winning Heritage Precinct includes restored sandstone buildings, and the Albert Hotel, trading since 1882, is the only hotel between Broken Hill and Tibooburra.
