About Miandetta (NSW)

Miandetta is a rural locality in Bogan Shire in central New South Wales, lying on both sides of the Barrier Highway and the Cobar railway line between Nyngan and Hermidale. The area is on the traditional lands of the Wangaaypuwan dialect speakers of the Ngiyampaa people, and the name is said to mean 'bend in river'. A small settlement grew around the railway station, which opened as Pangee in 1892 and was renamed Miandetta the following year, with a village reserve laid out in 1896 and at times a hotel and school. Nothing of the village survives today, and the locality is now entirely agricultural.
